FEEL GOOD FRIDAY and FLASH BACK FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday thing. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

Something that really made me happy this week is – comic books – I am joyously happy over comic books. Growing up I read everything I could get my hands on, including comics. My favorite was LIttle Lulu. And I was impressed that you could read classics illustrated and get the jist of a classic so quickly.

*

My aunt and mentor and godmother forbid comics. Lucky she wasn’t my mother and I could still read them. My aunt’s attitude was enough to keep from embracing comics till now. Now that I know living in others people’s opinions does not make me happy.

*

I read once that Charles Schultz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip said, (paraphrased and from the ‘ol memory), that he was a fairly kind of person. He was a fairly good artist and a fairly good writer and a fairly good humorist. I love that he gave permission for kids everywhere to have security blankets like Linus did and still be okay.  I remember the days of it NOT being considered okay that a child was attached to a security object. I thought that one little thing that he did was huge. In the olden days children in hospitals were NOT allowed to have a favorite stuffed animal or blanket or their parents either a lot of the time.

*

I am a fairly kind of a person and today a very happy one.  Since turning to comics and graphic novels with Script Frenzy, I wanted to get some comics to study. My grocery store doesn’t sell comics but it turns out my library has a lot. I took out a graphic novel and I am in heaven looking at it.

*

My drawings will be sketchy gesture type line drawings – I think. Here’s a contour drawing I did years ago.

*

This post is doing double duty as my Flash Back Friday Post with Jennifer at My Crazy LIfe.

WEDNESDAY WISDOM and FROM MUFFIN TOP TO SKINNY JEANS

Wednesday Wisdom

I’ve been wanting to come up with a meme. Here is my idea. It’s called Wednesday Wisdom.

*

KISS Keep It Simple Sweetie.

*

I’ve loved this idea since I first heard it. I was attracted to my husband partly because he knows how to keep things simple.

*

Here are my best thoughts on the subject.

*

Have you heard the story about the man living on the beach with a small boat.? An industrious type walks up to him and says, “You could advertise and take people out fishing. You could gradually buy more boats and become quite wealthy at it.”

*

Then man on the beach said and then what?

*

The Industrious one  said, then you could eventually retire and live comfortably on the beach.

*

The man said but I have that now.

*

Sometimes I think oh, I could do this or that to earn money. I like it better when I think what else can I get rid of and not have to take care of? I have a goal to leave my things in order and at a minimum when I die.

*

What do I have an abundance of that I can share? The produce from my garden, the rocks that my land is covered with, my writing, my loving and caring.

*

Have I showed gratitude and given back to the ‘source” today? I like to tithe to the source of my teachings. I often think on an ideal day I would meditate for 1/10th of the day. (1 hour and 24 minutes.)  Once my family was coming to visit and I looked around and saw that everything was in order. Usually when guests come I rush around and go through a lot of stress.  This time because I had been doing a lot of spiritual exercises, I was good to go.

*

I’d love to hear what you have found works in keeping things simple? XD

*

Short Mama at Family Of Shorts started this meme and I want in. I want the results.

*

How did you do on our first month of the journey?

*

The first week I chose to walk/jog three times a week and do water aerobics three times a week. It was so helpful that I committed to that because then when I wanted to cop out I didn’t.  My weight has stayed the same.  My waist is down 1/2 inch. I think for me my diet and calories in are okay, can keep tweaking them a little but increasing exercise is where it’s at. I have gotten so I can jog straight for 30 minutes now.

Were you able to stay on track with the 3 simple changes you chose in our first challenge?

*

No, I’ve changed around and lost focus.  The second week I wrote my post early and assumed we would pick three different things so I did. Then my committment got ‘fuzzy.’  My new committment is to do the same exercising including walking to water aerobics, but when listening to my body I can take off one extra day a week if I need to.

My second thing is to leave off the Japanese tea sweets.

My third thing is to do strength training a minimum of once a week, ideally twice.

*

Are there adjustments that you can see you need to make in order to continue to be successful at winning this battle of losing weight?

*

I need to be very careful about the junk food carbs. I need to go easy on the increasing exercise and listen to my body, to be extra careful about avoiding injury. I need to continue to be sure I have cold unsweetened tea available.

Thank you ShortMama for this meme. I am optimistic.

HONEST SCRAP

Diary Of A Fickle White Woman nominated me for this award. It means I get to write ten honest factoids about myself.

I previously won this award In February. So here are a few additional things about me.

!. My father is 94 years old and still sharp as a tack mentally. I hope I get there and beyond.

2. I just successfully completed Script Frenzy for the first time. That means I wrote 100 pages of Script during the month of April. The type of scripting I ended up doing is writing  graphic novels. I adapted two of my novels into a 24 page comic book and an 80 page graphic novel. I think this is working well for me as a media. I think visually and totally enjoyed doing it.

*

3. I am now able to gently jog for 30 minutes straight. I do an hour of water aerobics while treading water three times a week. And now thanks to my new neighbor I am walking two miles round trip to water aerobics. I need a nap.

4. My garden is coming along. I have beets, chard, tomatoes, peppers, garlic and edible chrysanthemums growing.

5.  I am looking forward to seeing what I can do by way of illustrating my comics after I finish adapting the next two of my novels.

6.  I love simplifying my life. I am looking forward to getting rid of things. Today I mailed four Japanese tea cups to my daughter.

7. I didn’t crochet till this year. I love to make Lei. *

I am on my fourth restart to make a crochet Navajo blanket. I think I got it this time.

*

My nominations for this award are the last five  people that left comments.

Feel Good Friday And Flash Back Friday.

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday thing. Here’s how to do it – pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

Five things that really made me happy this week were:

*

!.  I caught up all the pages I lost in Script Frenzy. I’ve got 90 pages written and should complete 100 today. I expect to keep going to 140 to finish.
*
2.  A year ago another writer and I started a writer’s group. It has far surpassed my expectations. I feel very bonded with the other writers, similar to how I feel with all of you.
*
3. I started out walking at the beach for 35 minutes and then jogging/walking and this week I gently jogged the whole time,  woo hoo.
*
4. I know better than to judge, but I was still challenged to forgive 2 people. This week when I was forgiving myself for judging myself and forgetting that I am divine, I realized that they are divine too. Then I further realized I was judging God and how he made them. I am at a new level of acceptance and am very grateful.
*
5.  I love being in my garden and eating fresh vegetables right out of it. I learned this week that I can dry beet leaves and Swiss chard. I am so excited that I can take them with me when I travel  and add greens to soup.  XD

*
6. OH my I got to see one of the WordPress Surprises. WooHoo.

Flash Back Friday

Here’s a second Friday post because I wanted to join the meme of Jennifer at My Crazy LIfe
*
My flash back started in the grocery store when I went to buy eggs. I remembered my grandmother always had brown eggs. I bought brown eggs today.
*
My grandparents lived over a candy store. Can you believe that? I don’t remember getting to eat excessive amounts of candy. I do remember being in there and getting candy dots on strips of paper and tiny metal pie pans that came with a tiny spoon. The pan was filled with a Carmel kind of sweet.
*
Have your best week ever.

Wednesday Wisdom And From Muffin Top To Skinny Jeans

Wednesday Wisdom

I’ve been wanting to come up with a meme. Here is my idea. It’s called Wednesday Wisdom.

Part A
Write a post on your blog about something you have learned in your life that you are willing to share. It can be as simple as how to shuck peas faster or as deep as how to find the meaning in your life. Tell us in as much or as little detail.

Part B

Ask others to share awarenesses they have on a challenge that you are facing. Go ahead ask for help, the blogosphere is here at your command.

Part C

Post your blog and then come back here and leave a comment with your blog url so we know to visit you.

Part D

Have fun. Laugh.

FREEING UP MY ENERGY

Completing things is one of my favorite expansive behaviors to do when I am feeling constricted.

*

I find if I make a list of everything I need to do and start completing as many as I can, I start getting more and more energetic. For some things I write  the date I will do it, and then I can let go of that nagging anxiety.  Having a time when I will deal with each thing, gives me freedom to let go of thinking about it.   Before doing this process, my mind seems to think it has to bug me as if I have to do everything RIGHT NOW.

*

In David Allen’s book GETTING THINGS DONE,  he goes into the process in greater detail and efficiency.  He says in his book “Many executives I have worked with during the day to clear the decks of their mundane “stuff” have spent the following evening, having a stream of ideas and visions about their company and their future. This happens as an automatic consequence of unsticking their workflow.”  (Allen 2001, p. 20.)

*

My experience of ‘unsticking my workflow’, is that, it let’s me quiet my mind so I can more easily find little things come into my mind, little important things like call a sick friend.  Without doing the process, those little important things get lost in all the urgency.

*

Even more, I find as I direct myself into positive behaviors, there is less energy or opportunity to fall back into habitual negative patterns.  If, I think of the day as 100 units of energy available to me, and direct 15 of them into positive behaviors, then my day falls into heightened positiveity.   If I spend my day thinking about doing something beneficial like exercising, but not doing it, then I have a day of greater negativity.  For me the question is, what things do I direct myself into that will have the greatest positive impact for the effort?

*

*

*

Short Mama at Family Of Shorts started this meme and I want in. I want the results.

So questions to answer this week:

How do you handle a gain or the feeling of knowing your didn’t do as well as you had hoped?

*

I have learned not to beat myself up and to look for what works.

*

What kind of effect does this have on you?

*

It is much better than getting discouraged and eating about it, or giving up.

*

Is there something constructive you can do to reward yourself for small steps?
*

I think I will go through my closet and get rid of any clothes I can let go of. That way there is room for new ones.

*

And how are you doing this week?
*

I went to bed at 6 PM lat night. I don’t know why I am so tired. Maybe after exercise I will take my laptop and work from bed.

*

What were your challenges?

*

I ran into a piece of cheesecake.  I ate it in two parts and figured it in my daily calories. Ya know It wasn’t that great tasting. I did eat it anyway and enjoyed it. I must remember tomorrow, when I bring the rest of it to a sewing group, that I already had my piece and to leave what is left over with them. Yes, I took a piece out of it.  XD  It is all frozen and pre-cut.
