I’m taking time for myself to love and be loved.

I’m taking time for myself to love and be loved.

This is an affirmation I have used for many years. It is meant to create abundance for me and it has worked very well.

*

On this vacation, this is what I am doing. It is so good.

*

Normally I’m a person who is highly scheduled and fiercely protective of  my time.

*

It’s also how I am about money.  I like to be very frugal with money so I can use it in beautiful loving ways.

*

Ah bliss. Have your best day ever.

BOOK REVIEW – NATHANIEL FLUDD BEASTOLOGIST Book One FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX

The next book from this year’s Horned Toad Takes that we are reading is

NATHANIEL FLUDD BEASTOLOGIST Book One FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX

It’s a middle grade book by R.L. LaFevers, illustrated by Kelly Murphy,

In this book a ten year old boy’s parents are presumed dead after their plane goes down at the North Pole.

The boy is taken in by his only Aunt who teaches him the family tradition of studying  mythical beasts. The boy and his aunt’s dodo bird start out antagonistic to each other.

My grandchildren are completely hooked and were disappointed when we had to stop reading last night.

This book is published by Houghton Milton Books for children.  I find myself thinking – dodo birds, they’re extinct aren’t they? And Phoenix are mythical creatures? My understanding of Boyd’s Mills Press publishing is that they rarely publish fantasy. If they do, they want it to be clearly unreal. There is something to be said for that.

Most of you would probably say these are clearly unreal. This adult is momentarily challenged, well some would say more than momentarily, but I refer to just this instance.

My grandchildren don’t have any problem with the unreality of this and know it is fiction.

When we finish reading it, I will update this.

Addendum: My grandchildren loved the book and so did I. We have plans to read the next book in the series when I visit again.

I haven’t received any compensation for this review.

Book Review – The Hunger Games

THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins.

* Young-Adult

* 384 pages

*

My daughter gave me this book to read. Because of it I stayed up way too late for a few nights. It is excellent. It reminds me of THE GIVER by Lois Lowry.

*

It’s that kind of take on society that makes you sad and also shows human nature at it’s finest.

*

It leaves you thinking about the characters and wondering how they are. Tonight my daughter brings home the second book in the series. Woo hoo.

*

I’d love to hear how you like it. My comments will be off till I get home in two weeks. Have your best day ever.

Stay Well All

I’m visiting at my daughter’s and I’ve been sick with a cold and cough.

Now today my grandson is sick with similar symptoms.

I heard myself starting to say my worst nightmare had come true. Then I realized it could be so much worse.

Now I am filled with gratitude that this is our challenge and not anything worse.

I wrote this two days a go and the children are responding quickly.

Book Review – HORN TOAD BOOKS

At my grandchildren’s school library, they feature a list of HornToad books. These are children’s books chosen for their excellence.

Two nights ago I started reading one to my grandchildren. It’s called

43 Old Cemetary Road

Dying To Meet You

by Kate Klise

Illustrated by M. Sarah Klise

I wondered if I was going to lose the children’s attention as the scene was set. A grumpy children’s writer rents a house so he can write a novel about a ghost tamer. To his surprise the house comes with a ghost and a boy whose parents are traveling.

The children were entranced. We read 1/3 of this 154 page book.

The entire book is written in newspaper clippings, letters and handwritten notes, plus the many illustrations.

The characters are well developed.

We can’t ait to finish it.

TURKISH VAN CATS

Last year when I came here to visit my granddaughter, she was all interested in Turkish van cats. She read about how they like to swim.

*

During the year her family adopted two cats at the local shelter. One is a black cat and one is a mixed tabby. The mixed tabby came to the shelter as a stray when he was 5 months old. They named the tabby Blitz.

*

This year my granddaughter was still talking about Turkish van cats so I Googled them.

*

I started to wonder what was going to happen when she started talking about getting a third cat.

*

Her mother noticed that the on line photos of Turkish van cats looked just like Blitz.

*

So yesterday as an experiment they bathed Blitz.

*

He purred!

*

He likes the water and they are getting a pool. Turkish van cats are under the category mixed tabby. It seems he is a Turkish can mix.

*

Did you ever find that you already have what you are wishing for?

*

PS I’m still traveling. XD

Travel and rings

Once when I was in my forties and divorced and despairing of ever finding a husband, I received a blue plastic child’s ring as a Christmas gift. It was at a party where token gifts were given.

*

It seemed like the woman who gave it to me felt a little sheepish that it was such a ‘small’ gift.

*

To me, it was perfect and there was no lack.

*

It only fit on my left hand which is smaller than my right.  I took that as a sign that I would be married.

*

I excitedly showed it off to everyone. It was a big translucent blue heart. I pointed out that even Elizabeth Taylor didn’t have a ring like this.

*

I’m still traveling and I bought myself a child’s green plastic Mickey Mouse ring. The blue one  wore through the back. And I did find a husband, bless his heart.
