Wednesday Wisdom

“Finish each day and be done with it! You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a NEW day. You shall begin it Serenely and with too high a Spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense! ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson~

Handwriting Is The New Black

Babble on started this meme.

*

Basically you agree to write a snail mail letter to someone each week.

*

See here for her details.

*

I sent a letter to my brother and today another to a child I know who turned 16. She is now the oldest living survivor with a rare genetic condition that she has. I think she survived so long because of her loving family, but really it is God’s will.

*

It is fun to write to children. They love getting mail so much.

*

When I get a personal letter, I tear it open and devour it. My favorite letters are ones where the writer says something they like about me. Those are my favorites to write also – telling people what I appreciate about them.

*

I also love writing and reading letters that are very present with what is going on. there is something very beautiful about reading about the objective reality. I love that in blogs and literature also.

    FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday meme. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

    *

Erika also has a new contest for blog writers here. It’s a brilliant idea and enough to make one feel good. Erika talks about her inspiration for the contest that came from Mommy On The Spot blog where there are some very touching posts: the kind of humanness that is so endearing and lets us know we are not alone.

    *

My feel good Friday today is about doing something for someone else.

    *

My daughter teaches 4th grade and she noticed that her students try to sharpen their pencils during quiet time for reading. She thought if she had a little cover to put over the pencil sharpeners, it would be a gentle reminder not to do that.

    *

I crocheted her two covers and I loved them. They are made out of a beautiful variegated yarn color called sea grass.

    *

I don;’t have a picture of them, but here are photos of 8 more I made. The other teachers in her grade level liked them, so I made some more.

    *

    *

My first one for a teacher with an orange reading chair.

    *

They evolved to this one made with yarn made from recycled water bottles and I added a loop, because of Holly’s memory of playing with yogurt sweaters with loops.

Holly talked about making sweaters for keeping the yogurt warm while it ‘grows.’ I realize I can make them the same as these pencil sharpener covers and make them taller.

WHY JAPAN Part II of II

Part I of WHY JAPAN? was yesterday. I plunked a down payment on a second trip to Egypt and Israel.I was looking forward to cruising the Nile and stopping at the temples. And I was planning to stay in the great pyramid as long as I could.

    *

    Then 911 happened.

    *

The tour company, the government, everyone said it wasn’t safe to go.

    *

I didn’t need to be told twice. Japan was recommended as a country with very little crime.

    *

It’s true, if you forget your purse on a park bench, someone will coming running after you to give it back to you.

    *

Japanese merchants are honest and upfront about prices and flaws in any merchandise. It would be counterproductive to their goals to be otherwise.

    *

I visited a man’s coffee shop that had museum quality antiques in the shop and upstairs in the building. He didn’t have locks or an alarm system.

    *

So, I went to Japan and found the comparison between Egypt and Japan like trying to compare grandchildren. They are each terrific and there is no lack .

    *

I had a wonderful time and came home and wrote this article.

    *

A few years later my beloved mother in law died. My husband gave me some of his inheritance and told me to spend it on myself.

    *

I went to Japan again. It was sublime.

    *

And now I am retired and wanted to go to Japan again while I am able to travel and living in Hawaii, I am halfway there already.

    *

So, I’m off again on October 18 for 16 days of revisiting my favorite places and seeing some new ones.

    *

    Thanks for listening.

WHY JAPAN? Part I of II

    girolame

Jb at Out Of My Mind And Onto The Page asked me

When did you first become interested in Japan?

    *
Even as a child I was very interested in the culture.

    *
When my husband and I married, (second marriage for each of us), we decided to go to Egypt and Israel for our honeymoon.

    *
My husband had been there before and he doesn’t travel well. He decided he didn’t really want to go.

    *

So we decided I would go myself, (with a tour group).
    *

My sister says I am unclear on the concept of a honeymoon.

    *
It makes me laugh and I like that we are the way we are.

    *

To be in the King’s chambers in the great pyramid at Giza is astounding. The shape of the pyramid channels energy. I heard if we stored milk in pyramid shaped containers, it would last longer.
    *
In the King’s chambers, I noticed everyone was effected by the energy in different ways. One lady ended up on the floor in a very happy state.
    *
A young woman I knew radiated beauty. Before we went in there, she was nice looking but not someone you would notice particularly.
    *
After, I couldn’t stop looking at her because of her radiance.
    *

But lucky for vain me, it effected me similarly.

    *

I felt so beautiful and I saw people looking at me as if I was beautiful.
    *
It wore off after a few days. I decided I wanted to go back to Giza and experience that again, maybe stay longer and have it last longer???
    *
My husband sometimes says to me, what happened? You look beautiful? I know it happens when I am happy and joy filled.
    *
So I guess I know how to create it without going to Giza.
    *
Some days, it seems easier to go to Giza.
    *
But how did I happen to end up in Japan?
    *
    That will be tomorrow’s post.
