So many good things have been happening. Did you see this? OMG!

On a separate note, Holly over at Holistic Wellness With Holly Worton. had this post and my week has been so joyous since I took up her suggestion. Her posts are very good. I see them as a treat for myself and I am savoring my way through them. This one, it came at just the right time for me or something. Read it for yourself and See if it works for you too.

For me it catapulted me into doing more things I love, and one of my favorite side effects is I am too busy and happy to overeat.

Have your best week ever!

FIve Fingers Shoes

It seems strange to call these shoes. They are more like feet enhancements. They are utterly flexible yet protect.

*

My daughter and sil surprised me with these Five fingers. I love them and feel so cool wearing them.

*

My doctor recommended that I walk and jog in sand to strengthen my feet so my knee won’t go out. It has worked beautifully. My knees are so strong now. I’ve been exercising in the sand barefoot and will still do so. In addition, now I have the option to wear these five fingers when I want to. They are good in water or on land.

*

My favorite thing is to wear them around town and feel very very cool.

*

I love these shoes and did not receive any compensation for writing this post. The shoes were a gift from my family who spoil me just right. XD

Weight Loss – Hurray.

My weight is down 5 pounds since I left on vacation. I am so happy about this.

*

My pants were so loose I could take them off without unbuttoning them.

*

So I gave them to charity and got a new pair. Yay. When I get home next week, I have some tight clothes  I’ve been waiting to be able to wear.

*

My comments are off because I’m still traveling.

Have your best weekend ever.

GIRL’S ON THE RUN

Two days ago I picked my granddaughter up at an after school program called  GIRL’S ON THE RUN.

*

I went early so I could watch her at this girl’s running group designed to foster self esteem.

*

It was very impressive how well run it was. Pun intended.

*

They did fun activities that were purposeful in clarifying  values and  were uplifting. Later that evening her father said she was “pumped” about the program.

*

It’s for girl’s from 3rd to 5th grade and at the end they do a 5K race. There is also a group for older girls.

*

My granddaughter told me that she has run 1/4 mile races so far.

*

The coaches pointed out that the girls can walk as needed and that they will all be there to support each other through it.

*

Well, I was “pumped”  too. I am very grateful that this is available and that the women who run it are willing to give their time twice a week.

FROM MUFFIN TOP TO SKINNY JEANS

Short Mama at Family Of Shorts started this meme and I want in. I want the results.

*

This week’s meme prompt is written by Cara from The Gone Again Smiths

Share your best or worse diet advice and tell about your experience.

*

The worst diet advice I have followed is low fat. My body needs good fats. I take large doses of omega 3 and 6 to keep my clotting factors regulated. Taking statins and lowering cholesterol too much left me with shingles twice.

*

I have some olive oil every day and when I am wanting something more to eat at night, I often have some olives.

*

The best diet advice is to stay happy and loving. When I am on vacation, I usually end up losing a little weight. I don’t count calories, I end up eating things I wouldn’t normally, yet I lose.
I do exercise more than usual. That is part of it. The important part I think, is that I am so happy and loving at these times. I need to stay in that place inside me every day.

Travel Tips – Water Bottle

When traveling it’s helpful to stay hydrated. Now that you can’t bring bottled anything through airport security, I find this little bottle very helpful.

*

It’s made by New Wave Enviro. The blue cap contains a filter.

*

You can bring this empty bottle through airport security and then fill it from a water fountain or tap.

*

I get this from my acupuncturist. Here is a web site that you can use to find where you can get one. They are sold at health food stores and by health professionals.

*

This is what they say about it at the web site.

The Better Water Filter is carbon based and removes chlorine and organic contaminants from regular municipal tap water.

Refill this bottle up to 90 times for fresh water on the go.

BPA Free!!!

The bottle is made from 100% United States corn and will degrade in just 80 days in a commercial compost.

*

I love that it is light weight and an easy size for carrying. I like to fill it before I get on the plane so I have access to water for takeoff and landing.

*

I love that after you’ve used it for 90 refills, it will degrade in the landfill.

*

If there are other companies that make a product like this, I don’t know of them. I was not paid or reimbursed in any way for this. I wanted to share what I think is a great idea.

*

It does make the water taste much better. I use the bottle in my hotel room to filter water through, if I make coffee in my room.

*

There is one airport I am thinking of that has water that tastes so ‘bad’ that even this filter doesn’t improve it. At that airport, I buy bottled water.

FROM MUFFIN TOP TO SKINNY JEANS

Short Mama at Family Of Shorts started this meme and I want in. I want the results.
*
From Shortmama:

Ok so this week I want to know how you plan to avoid overeating or junk eating now that the kids are on summer break?

Lets see, do I have a plan? No. Okay my plan? if I knew what it was? I would say? – Oh I got it.

*

In Oprah’s e-mail newsletter, she had a test to see what kind of weight management program would suit a person the best.

*

I took the test, and….

*

It suggested I would be best suited to a spirit based program.

*

If you’re wondering what that is, I was too.

*

There was a link for one and as I read about it, I relaxed. There was another also, which I didn’t read.

*

It seemed to me to be saying that our bodies are magnificently able to let us know when they need nutrients, e.g. craving and when we are full. The premise seemed to be if we focus on listening to what our body is telling us, we will be ahead.

*

This reminded me of a study I read many years ago. In it children were fed from a cafeteria line and were free to choose whatever food they wanted. The researchers discovered; IF an appetite was not seduced by sweets and junk food, the child ended up selecting a balanced diet.

*

My plan is to avoid the junk and pay more attention to my body’s signals.

FROM MUFFIN TOP TO SKINNY JEANS

Short Mama at Family Of Shorts started this meme and I want in. I want the results.

This week we are to share healthy recipes. Here are two of mine. Both are carbs. Hey, if I’m gonna cook, it’s probably carbs.

WHOLE WHEAT BREAD

adapted from a recipe by Fred Miller

185 Minutes to Prepare and Cook

Ingredients

8 cups spelt flour.

1 package dry yeast

2 tablespoons of honey

2 tablespoons kelp

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup water

1 cup powdered milk

3 cups warm water

1/2 cup brewer’s yeast powder

Directions

Add yeast to 1 cup very warm, not boiling water along with honey and 1 cup flour.
After 10 minutes it should be bubbling slightly, as the yeast is working.
Add the powdered milk and 3 scant cups water, salt and oil. Blend in the rest of the flour, saving one cup to dust the kneading space. Knead for 5-10 minutes.
Round up in a greased bowl.
Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Punch down, put in 2 greased loaf pans. Cover with damp cloth and let rise 1 hour.

Bake 15 minutes in a 400 degree oven, then 20 minutes at 350 degrees. If desired butter crusts. Each loaf makes about 20 slices. The way I have it written here makes a heavy dense loaf that looks like a fallen cake. If you want a softer lighter loaf add half white flour.
Enjoy warm from the oven.

OW, OW, SCRATCH, SCRATCH – COPING WITH SHINGLES

As I write this, I have shingles. It’s my second time. It leaves me with the thought why did this happen to me? And better yet, how can I prevent it’s recurrence.

*

I can rule out most but not all of the causes. On-line, I found information that red yeast rice which is a statin can contribute to shingles. Cholesterol functions to coat nerve endings.  Both times, I got shingles after taking red yeast rice.

*

Guess what I won’t be taking anymore?

*

This time the shingles is on my left trunk. Dr. Babinet pointed out that in Eastern medicine, the left side has to do with honoring the essence of our own uniqueness.

*

He gave me three affirmations to work with.

I am free to be me.

I am allowing the world to support me.

I am open to receive according to my own expression.

*

I created a triple whammy in this area by feeling challenged to set boundaries, connecting to a person without boundaries and judging myself for being ineffective and getting angry. It’s interesting to me that I could have done everything the same and been much further ahead by leaving out the part of judging myself.

*

Oprah had an article in her newsletter that I find comfort in. It is about setting boundaries. I love the first exercise for all the permission it gives to honor your unique boundaries, and before that to come to know what they are.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday thing. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

I am so happy. It’s a weird kind of happy.  Twice in the last week I have taken my laptop to bed and spent most of the day there. I was tired.  Also, I haven’t been able to jog and I’ve had a pain in my stomach and back that interfere with sleeping.

*

I know it doesn’t sound happy, but  I’m so happy because finally I know I’m not dying. Its shingles. Maybe you don’t know anyone else who is happy to have shingles. I had it before on my face and this is a piece of cake.  Now you know I am totally whacked.

*

I told my husband I’m so happy that I’m not dying. He said, “We’re all dying.” I said okay, I’m happy I’m not dying now.” AND, I get to clear my schedule and just rest.  Now I have an excuse to goof off.

*

Have your best week ever.
