Travel Japan — Up The Creek

My fifth day in Japan, I planned to travel from Kyoto to Imbe, the home of Bizen pottery.

For years I had been dreaming about the small pieces of Bizen pottery acquired on my last trip. Soy sauce pots and small vases went to my offspring and now I wanted a piece for me, maybe two pieces

Arriving alone at the train station, a solo traveler, probably an hour ahead of time, I was ready for this or so I thought.

Soon into the trip I had to change trains. Back out on the platform I studied the overhead signs. Of the three facts I needed for my train connection, (train name, destination and time),  the board had listings with two out of three, but never all three things in one listing. Puzzled, I wasted some time, mulling this over. Then I waited patently to speak to a rail employee. They told me I needed a different platform.

I ran over as the doors closed on MY train.

Panic filled me. This was my only day to go to Bizen. The rest of my days were filled with places I equally longed to return to. Breathe, stay calm.

A railroad employee pointed out the next train would be along in 4 minutes. Four minutes –muhaha. I can live with that. Wow, it goes to show there is no reason to get upset.

I got on the next train, ate my bento and whoa. We stopped. EVERYONE got off.

But wait, this isn’t where I want to go to make my next connection.

Oh this train doesn’t go that far. You need to take another train to get to your connection place.

A bit of tension returns but I remember how well the last miss worked out. It will be fine.

I ask a young woman at the station if indeed this is the train to Okayama. She digs out her schedule and shows me. In tiny print I see my arrival time will be at 11:58. Thanking her I get on and we’re off. At about 11:20, with the motion of the train lulling me to sleep, I close my eyes. I awaken to the sound of the train starting up. I see the young woman across the way looking at me with stricken eyes. That was your stop she says. What!!! It’s only 11:40. I look at her schedule. It clearly says 11:38 is my arrival time. OMG, Mercury must be retrograde today.

I get off at the next stop. It may as well be a million miles away. It is too far to walk in one day. This stop is completely deserted. No human in sight. No train station employees. Will there be any more trains here on a Sunday afternoon? There is a schedule which I stare at, thinking I may suddenly start to be able to understand Japanese. There is no English.

I look at the highway and wish somehow to be transported in the direction I came from. A truck passes every so often.

Despair floods me. Remember, breathe. This schedule has to make sense somehow.

A thought creeps in. I read a blog by a man who hitchhikes around Japan. He says it isn’t done there but if he waits long enough someone picks him up. He has had some very interesting experiences with the people who give him a ride. He speaks some Japanese.

I read body language and use pantomime.

I could do it. I know everyone who cares about me will have a fit when they find out. But Japan has a very low crime rate. It appears to be a straight hop down the highway to my left. (When I get back to my hotel later this night, I find the e-mail I printed up from my tour group warning me about the train connection and the short timing.)

I take out a pen and my largest piece of paper. On the blank side I start writing in block letters Imbe. I use up all the ink in my pen, when a boy arrives at the station.

A human being. I pounce on him with questions. Finally he understands and looks at the schedule. Very hesitantly he puts forth the time a train will come. In another half hour. I can live with that, it will work. I still have time to get to Imbe. The way my day has been going and his hesitancy have me worried. So when woman shows up I ask her also. She starts to tell me and then she sees the boy and she seems to know, that I have just asked him. She says something to me in Japanese, while making a downward motion with both of her palms. My understanding of what she is saying based on this motion and her tone is –

Chill out lady.

I realize I am very unchilled. I sit and breathe and tell myself it is all okay. A little while later the lady comes over to me and seems to ask me where I’ve come from. I show her on my maps. She speaks in Japanese and I reply in English and pointing.

The train comes and I get to Imbe. It is pouring rain but I don’t mind a bit. I got myself a Bizen coffee cup and a tea pot that makes me cry. Ah, but that is another story.

Simplifying My Blog

Lately, I’ve increased my playload. Something needs to give.

The good news is I will continue blogging about Japan on Mondays and My Experiences With Abundance on Wednesdays and miscellany on Fridays.

The bad news is I am leaving my comments off and I will only be commenting on your blogs infrequently.

I appreciate all the comments and blog support I’ve received. It’s been fun.

Ideally in a month or two I will be set up to receive tweets and keep up that way. We’ll see.

Have your best day ever!

CREATING ABUNDANCE — The One Most Impactful Thing I Did To Create Abundance.

Plumeria

Have you ever used affirmations? They have helped me to undo negative programming, to change my self talk. It takes a lot of repeating a positive affirmation to undo deeply held negative beliefs. I’m talking about saying an affirmation 1000 times a day or more. I used to say them while I commuted over and over. Sometimes I would sing them or say them in different tones. You can say them silently while waiting in lines. Some people like to say them to a mirror.

You can get results with some general abundance affirmations like —

I am rich.

I am worthy.

I am enough.

I think it is more effective to use your own personal abundance affirmation. Usually I say abundance rather than money because abundance is so much more than money.

When I was seeking my own personal abundance affirmation, a thought came in my head —

This is easy, my affirmation will be something like work until you drop.

Was I surprised when I got all quiet and relaxed and asked to be shown my affirmation.

I have an inner sanctuary in my creative imagination. I go there to rejuvenate. In it, I have an information room with a computer. I looked at the screen in my mind’s eye and saw the words on it–

I am taking time for myself to love and be loved.

Time was always an issue for me. I pressured myself to accomplish. For me, this affirmation is perfect. It often helps me make decisions about what I want to do.

If I was to look for an affirmation in my mind, it would have been work till you drop. This affirmation of taking time for myself comes from a deeper part of me, from my inner wisdom.

How can you get in touch with your inner wisdom and receive the abundance affirmation that is for you? You need to relax and listen inwardly. You can ask to be shown in a dream state or in meditation. Do you have other ways that you use to connect to your inner wisdom?

Have your best week ever.

CREATING ABUNDANCE — A GENERAL LOOK

Plumeria

Once, I had the experience of rating the main areas of my life.

Finances

Health

Life Work

Social/Relationships

I rated them on a scale of 1 to 10, how I saw them in the moment. Try it.

Notice your lowest rated area. Sit quietly and listen inside. You know that phrase Let Go and Let God, or nature or a higher power. Do that now.

The more you can relax the easier it is to hear your inner wisdom.

With your breathing, focus on exhaling as completely as you can. The inhale will take care of itself.  Push your breath out as long as you comfortably can. Blow out imaginary candles.

As you continue reading, be aware of your breathing. Feel yourself relaxing.

What would improve your area that you gave the lowest rating?

Can you think of something to change about that area of your life?

Is there any new behavior you could try out?

What does this area have to teach you?

Is there anything for you to forgive? I’m not talking about forgiving any particular circumstance in your life, I’m talking about forgiving yourself for judging yourself in any way. Know that you always did the best you could, given your circumstances at that moment.

Right now is where it is happening. Stay in this place, stay in now. Yesterday is over. Abundance is not there. It is available here and now. If you are having trouble staying present with right now — observe the seat of your chair against your body, the temperature in the room, your breathing.

If there are a lot of challenges for you in your life now, there are also blessings. Everything is a blessing. There is a silver lining to every cloud. Even poop can be composted.

A big secret to creating abundance is composting the poop of your life and enriching your life with this fertilizer. If you have lemons make lemonade.

You are the perfect one for your position in life, the perfect CEO of yourself, inc.

Is there any little change you can make to improve your life? I’m talking small here, so small that it will be easy to do. For e.g. smile at someone, or take three relaxing breaths or turn off the light as you leave the room or any number of things that you think of.

Now rate these four areas of your life as they are right now. : )

Finances

Your Health

Your Life Work

Social/Relationships

I hope you find like I did, that they are better. For me, I had a headache and by the time I relaxed a little it was a much better rating.

Bless you. XD

Creating Abundance – Claim Your Power

Plumeria

Would you like to have more of the things you want in life? And less of what you don’t want? Using a practical, spiritual approach, you can discover what true abundance is for you and begin manifesting it. Abundance in the world follows naturally from being connected with your inner abundance. It doesn’t work to demand it. It comes in as a byproduct as you get in touch with the goodness you are.

If you haven’t read it see here for last week’s assignment. or to recap  — I asked you to write a paragraph about your financial state. You don’t have to share it with anyone, it’s just for you. If you haven’t done that consider doing it now.

edible crysanthemum

Now take a moment to be quiet inside yourself. Exhale for as long as you comfortably can. Allow your lungs to be refilled with clean air.  Exhale again for as long as you comfortably can. Push the air out, as if you are blowing out candles.

Remember to yourself, that you have all the resources necessary to handle your life. If you don’t believe this, pretend for the purposes of this exercise. Let that sink in.

Now take a fresh sheet of paper and write a paragraph about your financial state from this place inside of you.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday meme. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

Truth is, I was being weighed down by feelings of inadequacy. I felt too negative to post. Now, I just did a little get myself back together exercise I do, and I realize I was thinking that being negative is a catastrophe. As if my mother has her head in a guillotine and the blade will fall and cut off her head if I am bad.

And then I grouse at dh and judge my neighbors and myself and put pressure on myself to be perfect.

Luckily, my mother is safe. She died years ago.

And lucky, I forgive myself and realize, I am a spiritual being having a human experience and we humans do this stuff. This one does anyway.

So, no outer circumstances have changed, yet the world seems sunny again and I’m off to our local Cherry Blossom festival.

My feel good Friday a day late, not a dollar short, I hope.

Have your best weekend ever.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday meme. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

Five things that I feel happy about this week are:

1. 50% of my husband’s co-workers were laid off last Friday and he wasn’t. Hurray! I like the lifestyle he spoils me with.

2. I won two books from Dollycas‘s Thoughts. She does a lot of book reviews and has a lot of giveaways. She also is interesting, kind, thoughtful and one of my favorite bloggers. She has so many giveaways, I knew I was going to win sometime. Yay!

3. My grandaughter’s room is zebra and pink. When I found some zebra yarn I had to make her a blanket. Did you know there are lots of how to’s about fixing dropped stitches and they all talk about stitches you drop and find while you are knitting. I found my dropped stitches after I nearly finished a full size blanket. One thing I love about knitting is the uniform look of the stitches. Mine were out of uniform. After I repaired them, they were glaring mistakes to me.

Since I’m more of a salvage things rather than take them apart and redo them kind of person, I decided to crochet chains the length of the blanket where the mistakes were.

A new design. Once I crochet a border, it will be done. Yay!

4. I ‘took offense’ from an acquaintance of mine. Clearly she was in error, until I looked closely. When I am in a good place, nothing bothers me. I realize I needed to fill me up. Now I’m grateful that it came up as a reminder to me.

5. Two of my favorite blog writers shared about feeling inadequate. They are people who write very well and give me a challenge not to  compare myself  with them. I would lose in all the areas they are so excellent at. It would never occur to me that they could feel that way. Another ‘lightbulb moment’ reminder to me. I am excellent at being me. Am I using the word excellent too much, that’s what we people who used to be hung up on perfection use instead of perfectionist terms. Muhaha.

Did you have an excellent week?
