It’s official. I validated my wordcount and I completed Nanowrimo for the 5th time.

It’s a great impetus to get a first draft done. For me, I get to discover a story inside me. Now I will cut about 3/4 of it and get to work revising it or one of my other drafts, AFTER Christmas.

*

We had two of our neighbors over for Thanksgiving dinner. It was lovely as usual.

*

When I was 15 my mother had my youngest brother and was coming home from the hospital on Thanksgiving. I said I would cook Thanksgiving dinner for 11 of us. How hard could it be? I knew how to cook.

Muhahahhaha.

Thank goodness my father helped me. And I was never unrealistic about hosting a dinner party again. I do what I can to keep things simple.

*

When my grandchildren come to visit at Christmas, I want as much done ahead of time as possible so I can put all my energy into enjoying them.

So when I cooked this turkey, I stuffed it and cooked some additional stuffing in a pan. I blended the two batches of stuffing together and froze half of it. At Christmas I will roast an unstuffed bird which is so much easier. I also made 4 cups of gravy and will freeze half of that for Christmas too. And I made 4 pie crusts and froze 2 of them.

*

I stayed in a cotton yukata, (robe) yesterday on black Friday, all day. It was great. I guess on Sunday I will venture into traffic. I hope it will be less by than.

*

Have your best holidays ever.

XD

Travel Japan – A Question Of Beauty?

In my November 3rd post, I wrote regarding my previous trips to Japan:

If this trip is like my others, I become heightened aesthetically. I can hardly walk down the street without exclaiming at the beauty in the most ordinary of objects – a leaf, a crack in the sidewalk.

Jb at Out Of My Mind And Onto The Page commented:

Why do you think that happens? Is there a big contrast from where you live? Or is it because you’re relaxed and can soak it all up?

It’s not a big contrast from where I live in Hawaii. I am surrounded by natural beauty.
I definitely get relaxed in Japan. That probably is a big factor.
I love design. The Japanese have excellent design judgment.
Look what they did with an ordinary napkin.

A packaged cold lunch:

I think the Japanese work with nature that they love so much and enhance it, like at Adachi Museum gardens:

By kate nev

I think, it’s like if you walk into an ordinary room vs. walking into a room that has been designed to draw your eye to the best features.

I came to these gardens one day when I was out of sorts and noticed I became tranquil by the time I left.

It makes me want to create more beauty or rather enhance what is there. I guess that means clean up my clutter, XD

If this trip is like my others, I become heightened aesthetically. I can hardly walk down the street without exclaiming at the beauty in the most ordinary of objects – a leaf, a crack in the sidewalk. I want to live in this place of heightened appreciation of the beauty that is everywhere.
*
This is my favorite thing about Japan, the effect it has on me.
*
Enjoy the beauty in your life today. XD

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

I am feeling so good about the fact that When I became so absorbed in a book I have been reading: I had the opportunity to drop everything and just read yesterday.

I finished the book, except the epilogue. It was so good, I didn’t want to stop reading. I laid outside on a lounge chair and read. Life doesn’t get much better.

The book is THE HELP.

The book is about the lives of black housekeepers in the south in the 60’s. It is an exquisite balance of the ugly and the beautiful. I liked it even though the author sidesteps sexual abuse.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

*
Last week on FEEL GOOD FRIDAY, I mentioned feeling disgruntled. Even after posting about good things, the disgruntled continued. (Gasp! Imagine.)
*
But finally, I heard some words about winning in your inner dialogue and letting others win in your outer dialogue.
*
My disgruntledness came from feeling wronged. And if I was honest I would say because I used that against myself to say I am unworthy.
*
A woman came to mind that I observed once. To me it seemed she was clearly in the ‘right’ yet, she said to another person, I see I wasn’t clear about this and she explained it differently.
*
I was shocked that she didn’t try to make the other person ‘wrong.’
*
So I decided to let the person I felt disgruntled about be ‘right’.
*
OMG, it’s been such a happy great week. I feel esteemed by that other person, which is what I wanted all along.
*
I guess this is what Rumi was talking about.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I will meet you there.

*
Wanna meet?

Crocheted blanket

The blanket

*

While here at my grandchildren’s, I am finishing crocheting a blanket that my daughter started before she went back to work full time.

*

My granddaughter picked out a variegated rainbow colored yarn.

*

There were 26 skeins of yarn to be crocheted. I’m on the second to last one now.

*

I set myself a goal of one skein a day. It takes me about four hours.

*

When I am here time is very precious, but I made this a priority. I crochet every chance I get.

*

Excuse me, back to my hook.

*

Here is another blanket I made for a grandson.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

I’m on vacation and have turned the comments off. I’m not there to link up to Feel Good Friday, but, I’m thinking of you all. Thinking of all you readers, when I am not distracted by the beauty of family and friends. Have your best summer ever.

The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life. Jessica Hische

*

My daughter sent me this in an e-mail. I think it’s brilliant.

*

What do you do when you procrastinate?

*

I blog.

Energy

Plumeria

Want some energy?

*

Sensitivity to others energy is very high in this one.

*

When someone is ‘pulling’ on my energy, I notice right away.

*

In my own life, I am not always as upbeat as I would like to be.

*

In particular to my terrific acupuncturist.

*

While she is working on me, I unload all the current happenings in my life, particularly the challenges.

*

She is a superb listener and she gives excellent feedback.

*

Translated, this means, she doesn’t judge me and she doesn’t tell me what to do.

*

I love it and yet…

*

I judge myself for being too ‘nudgy’ and not upbeat.

*

So, I decided when I am there and doing what I still keep on doing, I will in a prayerful way ask for positive energy to come through me and spread out to her and the whole room.

*

It makes me feel much better. I don’t know if it is any better for her.

*

Maybe, it is because I stop judging myself.

*

Here comes dear reader, I am sending you a blast of positive energy. Have your best day ever.

*

You’re taking a vacation Erika, couldn’t come at a better time for me. My grandson arrives next Friday and soon after that I’ll be traveling until September.

*

I feel real good about my trip. I’ll be at Disney world with my oldest son’s family and then New York visiting my 94 year old father then to CA and finally to Texas with my daughter’s family.

*

I’m practicing staying calm about all the details.

*

In NY I will see about 20 of my  classmates from my childhood. That was pure joy the last time I was there.

*

My happiness is in my looking forward and anticipating.

*

Instead of swimming with captive dolphins, my grandson and I are going to kayak out to a spot where the wild dolphins play. Also my grandson and husband are going on a zip line over gorges in North Kohala here in Hawaii.

*

When I am traveling, I won’t have a computer with me and  my blog presence will be spotty. I have a few posts set to publish. I will be thinking of you all and wish you all your best summer ever.

*

Spontaneous feelings of happiness are bubbling up.

*

I woke up in the wee hours feeling a lot of anxiety about everything going on right now.

*

An affirmation came to my mind “I am staying on top of things.”

*

It’s working. I am wrapping up details and getting happier by the minute. It’s a deep unshakable happy and I like it.
