MY EXPERIENCES WITH CREATING ABUNDANCE — Wanting Things.

Plumeria

When you want things, ask for them for your highest good. What I mean is, that you want things that will be good for you, not the things that you are sorry you asked for, once you get them.

You can also add that you would like this thing or better. Once I did this when I was going to a writer’s workshop. I asked to get a publishing contract out of it, for my highest good of course, and I added, this or better please,  Address this to the universe or god or whatever is your source.

I came away from the workshop with an editor’s words in my ears that my story was the best thing she read that weekend and that it needed to be a book. I realized getting spurred on to write a book was better than having a story published. I did go on to write that book.

It is so comforting to think that something better is coming when you don’t get something. Perhaps the whole thing is a psychological trick to play on yourself. Whatever! It works and when you go looking for the better — you are likely to find it.

Also, consider adding for your own highest good and also that of all concerned. I find they are really the same thing.

BOOK REVIEW – Rio Star by Pepper Smith

TITLE: RIO STAR — A Patty O’Donnell Mystery

AUTHOR: Pepper Smith

GENRE: Romantic Suspense / Mystery

This is Pepper’s second book. The first  BLOOD MONEY is reviewed here. The third book REEF RUNNER, comes out as an e-book April 12.

It was exciting to win this book at Pepper Smith’s blog – Painting With Words. She writes suspense and teaches suspense writing at the Muse Online Conference. I’ve taken her class the last two years and appreciate her teaching style, which is very supportive. Her writing is similar – Pepper plays fair with her readers and is masterful at unfolding the story in clear way and timing.

Since the main character is transported away from her everyday world, we don’t see a lot of her family. We do get to see more of a villain from her first book. It is interesting to me to have a villain continuing in the series and I like it. I am looking for him to be in the next book too and want to know more about him. And especially, I’d like to learn more of another unwitting villain, who becomes an ally to Patty, the main character.

I read this book in one day, I couldn’t leave it down.

Disclaimer – My policy is to only review books that I like. I received a copy of this book in a giveaway from the author’s blog.

Encouraging Letters to Japan

edible crysanthemum

A few weeks ago I posted a request for toys for Japan, see  Here.

Now, I received an email detailing how to write an encouraging letter to an adult in a relocation center.

The plan is simple:

* Write your letter of loving support and encouragement in English (most Japanese are able to read English). If you hand write the letter, please be sure to print in block letters (no cursive).

* Enclose the letter in a sealed envelope and then place in another envelope.

Please send your letters by April 15. Do not include money. Participation, of course, is optional.

If this speaks to you, send me an email for the address.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

The Girl Next Door Grows Up
Blog started this Feel Good Friday meme. Pick one of her prompts and write about it on your blog!

*

This week a publisher asked for the rest of my manuscript after reading the first pages. I am the same person I was with the addition of this VALIDATION.

Please put a good thought on this — a thought of publishing my book or better — for me and for the publisher.

ADDENDUM: Alas, before the post is hours old, I discover the publisher is listed on Predators and Editors and not in the way I wanted to see. Thank you for all your kind wishes. The ‘or better’ that I always look for, is that I don’t have to do all the promoting I was envisioning.

It’s official. I validated my wordcount and I completed Nanowrimo for the 5th time.

It’s a great impetus to get a first draft done. For me, I get to discover a story inside me. Now I will cut about 3/4 of it and get to work revising it or one of my other drafts, AFTER Christmas.

*

We had two of our neighbors over for Thanksgiving dinner. It was lovely as usual.

*

When I was 15 my mother had my youngest brother and was coming home from the hospital on Thanksgiving. I said I would cook Thanksgiving dinner for 11 of us. How hard could it be? I knew how to cook.

Muhahahhaha.

Thank goodness my father helped me. And I was never unrealistic about hosting a dinner party again. I do what I can to keep things simple.

*

When my grandchildren come to visit at Christmas, I want as much done ahead of time as possible so I can put all my energy into enjoying them.

So when I cooked this turkey, I stuffed it and cooked some additional stuffing in a pan. I blended the two batches of stuffing together and froze half of it. At Christmas I will roast an unstuffed bird which is so much easier. I also made 4 cups of gravy and will freeze half of that for Christmas too. And I made 4 pie crusts and froze 2 of them.

*

I stayed in a cotton yukata, (robe) yesterday on black Friday, all day. It was great. I guess on Sunday I will venture into traffic. I hope it will be less by than.

*

Have your best holidays ever.

XD

I have written 46,000 words for Nanowrimo and plan to finish today.

In two hours, I’m off to see Harry Potter.

Life doesn’t get any better does it?

I like my latest story, I am content with it.

It was fun yesterday at my writer’s group. Some people write so well, it is spellbinding to hear their work.
And they think I am high tech because I blog. Muhahaha. I get by with a lotta help from my friends.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY

Today is the first day I’ve gotten back to getting up with the sun. Finally no more jet lag.

Today I put these hand spun and woven mulberry sheets from Gungendo on my bed. I’ve been carrying them around to show people. I did get to sleep on some in Omori and it was delicious. Maybe my jet lag would have been gone sooner if I slept on these sooner – hmm.

A friend Gail from my water aerobics class came upon these used writer’s books and thought of me. She carried them around in her car while I was traveling. Wasn’t that thoughtful of her?

Ooh, I had coffee in my new Bizen pottery coffee cup.

And I am over 20,000 words into Nanowrimo, so I am in good shape there. Write or Die is a great aide to writing. You set it for a time and a word count and type right on their site. If you slow down the screen changes color and if you still don’t write, awful sounds come on. You can set it on evil mode where it starts erasing letters if you don’t write. I don’t go that far.  Some of my best writing happens when I just keep going and disengage the thinking.

Have your best Friday ever. I toast you with my coffee.

My Horoscope

By theotherway

Today’s horoscope says:

You’ll be emotionally unpredictable and must make every effort to appear stable…

I think they nailed me with this one.

Today starts the Muse Online Conference. It’s a week of writers workshops offered 24/7.

I limited my selection to 21 workshops I want to take and 11 chat sessions.

(sigh.)

It’s so good. Save the url for next year. Registration is closed now.

Consider joining in on

This meme is from Out of My Mind and Onto the Page.

Blogging Excellence – A Challenge.

Kiawe tree - from the mesquite family.

WHAT IF we picked one blog this week and visited it each day and left a comment about everything we like about this particular blog?

*

We could go over this one blog carefully and note all the details that go into it.

*

It would be good for us because it would help us notice more of what we like and why.

*

It would be good for the blogger because it would acknowledge their work.

*

In this challenge, I invite you to ignore anything you don’t like about the blog. Be like the animal trainers and only focus on the good parts. Only focus on what you want to see more of.

*

Will you join me in this challenge? Please leave a comment and say what blog you chose and what you found. We may want to go and check it out too.

BLOG QUESTIONS

These are my responses to blog questions from Denise at Mommy’s Journey.

1. why do you blog?

*

I write to creatively express my wisdom and loving with you all.
*

2. why did you originally start blogging? have your reasons changed?
*

It was always the same reason and it is why I wrote 5 novels. What I love about blogging is the interaction.

*

3. how often do you blog? does this vary?

*

I blog at least three times a week.  Often it is four.
*

4. do you have a routine of any sorts when you make time to blog or just when you have time/are moved to do so?
*

I aim for Monday, Wednesday and  Friday. Since I live near the international date line, when I post, for most of the world it is already the next day.

*

5. how often do you read other blogs?
*

Some blogs I aim for daily because of a committment to ‘Take a comment, Leave a comment.’ Usually the posts that come to my e-mail get read daily.

The other blogs on my blogroll, I try to check once a week.

*

6. how do you choose which blogs to read?
*

I love accumulating blogs that attract me for one reason or another. And I equally love ruling out the ones that don’t make the cut. That said there are many blogs I have lost track and would have liked to have kept. Easiest for me is the blogs that have e-mail subscription. I used to click to follow blogs but unless they go to google reader, (where I see them infrequently) they are not in a format that is easily accessible to me.

*

7. do you follow any?
*

I ‘follow’ the blogs that come to me by e-mail and the ones on my blogroll. Infrequently I follow those on my reader. When I get overly busy I sometimes delete all of the e-mail posts and start fresh the next day.

*

8. how often do you comment on blogs?

*

I make an effort to comment when I read posts.

*

9. how do you “thank” people for commenting on your blog?

*

I thank people by replying in my comments or replying on their blog.

*

10. do you stay on top of comments?

*

Usually I comment within 4 days. I group thank you’s on my post. I respond to most but not all comments. I plan to respond more randomly.
*

11. how do you encourage meaningful comments?

*

For my commenting, I make an effort to find something meaningful to say. I don’t always succeed.  I envy those bloggers who are good at asking meaningful questions of their readers and promote interesting discussion. For e;g;  The Mind Of Ifer. Or who inspire by the honesty of their sharing. e.g. Life On Its Own Terms.

*

12. do you blog more for yourself  or do you account for what your readers might want to hear about when choosing what to blog about?
*

I blog to express, usually what is present in the moment. I get a lot of hits from google searches on Japan and lei. I will post more about Japan especially when I travel there this October.

I make an effort to keep my blog uplifting and non-ranting. I write in other journals when I am in a funk and may relate about it here, after I get a grip on it. Funny, but when I have been in a funk and said okay, what do I write about that makes  me happy? Japan comes to mind.

*

13. do you have ongoing themes  or is your blog more random?

*

My blog is eclectic like my life. I am good at going through massive amounts of things and finding the ‘gold’.

*
14. when you get in a funk and don’t feel like blogging, how do you keep your readers?

*
I haven’t missed blogging at least three times a week. I will be traveling without a computer for a total of 8 weeks this year. I will pre-publish some posts and warn my readers that I won’t be responding.

*

15. have you ever made a fellow blogger upset and how has that affected you or what happened?
*

It’s not possible for me to ‘make’ someone else upset. They have to choose that for themselves or not.  I wrote this post because of concerns about not inflicting on someone else.

*

16. do you list blogs you follow on your blog?

*

I have a separate page for my blogroll. I grouped sections, for instance one is titled LESS ACTIVE. I put blogs there that didn’t have a post for a month, yet, I look forward to reading them when they do post.

I’m still experimenting with other groupings and updating it. It’s very convenient for me to open that page and go through all of them.

I invite you to respond to Denise’s questions too, either in the comments or at her blog or on your own blog and link back to us.
